Sharing the Blog

So Beatty and I have decided to hold hands and skip down the yellow blog road together. I (Coy) am going to help him keep up with the duties. Hopefully I can live up the LBP standard of Blog Speeling, and punctuation?

Last night (9/24/04) we took our first trip to Beaumont (my home town sort-of, I was born there but moved away very young). We wondered earlier in the week if we should postpone since the news was making it seem like Tropical Storm Ivan would be in the process of kicking East Texas' ass during our first set. Marc tried to bring it up to Tyson, who responded "don't worry, I'll handle it". Implying that in some way Tyson can stop a tropical storm, apparently he can since the weather was perfect.

The club was cool, a ice house in a good way. It's called The Vortex and I'm sure we'll be there again soon. We set up early and had plenty of time to argue about the set list (compromise - I win). It was only about 9:20 when we started the first set, we were all just ready to play. The good thing about starting early is we know we have time to play around and that's what we did, a lot of jamming, a lot of noodling, a lot of soloing.

The second set was definitely the high light. The bar had filled in a little, the beer had started flowing a little and Phyve had the stage filled with dancers. From there it was just up to us to keep the gas peddle down.

I love shows like this one, there were probably some mistakes here and there but who cares, the vibe was great and there were a couple of those improv moments that make me really appreciate my band. Playing music is such a high & low kind of affair. Yesterday consited of 4 hours of driving, 2 hours of set up/break down, 3 hours of sitting around waiting and 3 hours of playing. I probably (clearly) remember 5 minutes total and they were those times on stage when I had a second to stand back and be my friends' biggest fan.

In all it was definitely a gig to remember. We met a lot of cool people and hopefully started what will be a great relationship with The Vortex and Beaumont.

Thanx again to everyone who came out and Happy Birthday John!

See you soon,
Coy - LBP Bass
